Remote Access Help: xFi (xfinity) + Google Wifi

Hey all: I need some advice setting up remote DVR access. I'd like to try to set it up using a DMZ rather than bridge mode first, if that's at all possible.

Here's my network topology. All connections are wired ethernet.

WAN --> xFi Gateway --> Google Router (WAN IP: 10.0.0.66, LAN IP: 192.168.86.1) --> DVR (Synology NAS) (192.168.86.102)

In the xFi Gateway app, advanced settings:

  • In DMZ, I've set DMZ Status: Enabled; IP address: 10.0.0.66.

  • In Port Forwarding I've set Reserved IP address: 10.0.0.66; Port Number 8089; Protocol: TCP

In the Google Home app, Advanced Settings:

  • IP Reservations: DVR: 192.168.86.102
  • Port Management: 192.168.86.102; 8089-->8089; TCP (I don't really understand what the from/to port is for?)

Problem:
In the Channels DVR Server Troubleshooting screen it shows this error for remote DVR:
Outgoing connections are coming from {my xfinity WAN IP address} but the external IP of the router is 10.0.0.66.

What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

Your settings look correct. Note that port forward is not required on xFi because the DMZ is essentially a port forward for all ports.

The error on Channels troubleshooting may be harmless. It is detecting that you have two routers.

Does portchecker.co show 8089 as open?

Oh... huh, yea it actually does work. I wasn't even going to try until that error in Troubleshooting went away

I removed the DMZ and seems to be working with just the port forwarding set up. Seems (slightly) safer.
