Hello all, so today I got gig internet installed after years with cellular internet. I wanted to get remote access set up and running. I forwarded the port on my router. When I test it, nothing works. So I look at troubleshooting and it says that the dvr is pointed to my cellular modem and not the new gig modem. I have both on my router but the cellular is failover only. How would I get the dvr pointed to the new modem or is this a router issue?
Disable remote access, and then re-enable it. That ought to cause the DVR to update the DNS record to point to your new IP address.
Most security experts advise against port forwarding. Use a self hosted VPN instead. TailScale MESH VPN is one solution.
