Remote access not working after changing Modems

I had remote access working. I changed to a new modem. I then opened up port forwarding on the new modem to 8089.

I get this message in trouble shooting:

Remote Access:
Outgoing connections are coming from 154.6.20.162 but the external IP of the router is 73.209.223.44

Any ideas?

Judging by the error message, you probably need to switch remote access off and then back on

I tried this. I shut if off and restarted the dvr and also the server. But when I turn remote access back on, I get the same error message.

If you goto a site like whatismyip.com, does that match the ip of your modem?

If he got a new router, possibly he has Channels DVR trying to use UPNP on it instead of specifying Manual port forwarding.

I was able to get this to work. I had also added a VPN. So I turned off VPN and redid the port forwarding on the new modem. It works now. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Question (and I will search around).....is it possible to have a VPN on the dvr server machine?

Yes, but usually in that case, you access via your local IP address, and the Channels clients are considered Local/Home, not remote.

Can someone instruct me exactly how to connect remotely when using a VPN (expressVPN btw)? I have searched and see comments like the above that you can do this but I can't find the exact steps to do this.

I do know that expressvpn has a split tunnel feature but unfortunately that does not work on the current MacOS. I checked with them and they said the are working on fixing it but no ETA.

Thanks, Bryan

If you're using an outbound VPN then you need to email support with your non-VPN IP and we can set it on your account.

email sent. Thanks!

Hello. I sent and email a couple of weeks ago and have not heard back. If there are resources here please let me know. Again, I am trying to get remote access to work with a VPN.

What VPN server are you using?

I have expressvpn installed on my Linksys router.

But expressvpn is an outbound VPN service, if I remember correctly. Unless there is a way to allow inbound connections, I don't think it will work.

Ok, expressvpn has split tunneling on the router. So I was able to open just my channels dvr server and now have remote access working. Thanks for the help here.
