Remote Access with VPN on Host Computer

I’m running Channels DVR on a Mac mini, and its fantastic. However, I recently added a VPN (ExpressVPN), and now I’m having an issue connecting remotely. Everything still works fine on my home network and I’ve had no problem with remote access in the past.

I have a feeling it has something to do with my IP changing (for outgoing communication) due to the VPN. Is there a standard method for using Channels with VPNs, or is this something that needs to be addressed on their end?

Thanks:)

Channels DVR pings our server every few hours, and we use the IP the request comes from as your home IP for remote connect. Now that you’re using a VPN, our servers think your VPN ip is your home ip and that’s why remote connect is no longer working.

If you’re able to blacklist certain servers (community.getchannels.com) from going over the vpn, that would fix it.

Thanks man. I worked it out using their Split-tunneling feature. It allows the user to select which apps use the VPN and which don’t. Pretty slick actually.

I'm wanting to use a VPN on my chrome browser traffic only on the mac mini that I run channels on. Is this ping done through the app or through chrome? If I split tunnel and only use the VPN for chrome traffic will channels still pickup my VPN IP as my home IP? Will it authenticate TVE channels correctly?

The ping is done by the DVR server. Chrome is only used for TVE which is unrelated to the Remote Access feature.
