Remote DVR Access issues Amazon Fire Stick

I seem to not be able to access the setup screen when I try to connect an Amazon Fire stick via the internet (remote access). The sticks work fine at home and also work fine at a remote location via VPN. But in those instances I'm pointing the devices directly at my Channels DVR server.

When I try to connect it to via the internet I get the message that says to use a browser and gives me the IP of the Amazon stick following by /auth (i.e. http://192.168.x.x:57000/auth). I've had that come up on the iphone and iPad when I'm remote and can get the authorization done. But when I type that into a web browser all I get back on the browser is 192.168.x.x refused to connect. So I'm left with the sinking suspicion that the Amazon Fire is the issue as I've been able connect an iPhone, IPad, and Amazon Fire Tablet remotely with no issues.

Hopefully someone has some ideas here.

If you're at a hotel or something you will need to use your hotspot to finish the initial auth. The 192.168.x.x address is local and some networks do not allow peer to peer communication.

I tried hooking it up at work first and thought there might be a firewall issue, and then took it over to my cousin’s house. The behavior is the same everywhere. I brought it home and then tried here as well. Everything works fine when i point it to the home server, but all attempts to hook it up as a remote device fail

I’ve also tried 2 different Amazon fire sticks and have the same issue on both

Can you ping the IP of the fire stick from the computer with the browser?

Yes. Both Fire Sticks respond to getting pinged.

Can you connect to http://x:57000 without /auth at the end? What about /api

Finally figured it out. It's the browser security settings that were blocking the connection. You have to allow Flash or at least thats the setting that I changed to get it to work.

I was wondering if you could tell me.. Does the channels remote DVR feature (that is on Apple TV) work via Amazon firestick ? the idea being to login remotely to my DVR at home, from my holiday property using the amazon firestick... and watch live tv away from home. I know this works via Apple TV, but wasn't sure about amazon device.

Many thanks.

Yes, all clients can remotely access the DVR server if your system is set up for it.
