Remote HDHomerun Flex 4K

Before I begin the investigation, just wanted some input on if it would be possible to get Channels DVR to see a HDHomerun Flex 4K in another location. I'm in PA and would like to access a unit in NY.

My thought was that this might be possible using Channels DVR in conjunction with Tailscale. Both locations have symmetrical FIOS Gigabit internet service.

Looking for input on if I should stop the investigation before it begins.

Spin up a second server in the NY location and enable Tailscale option on both and create a custom channel on the PA server to import the m3u playlist

You can do all of this without any problems. It will work better than you expect. Instead of enabling remote on the new server, just enable Tailscale on it. Set it up like a normal dvr with the hdhr. Now you can use custom channel source in your home server and import the m3u playlist from the remote server via Tailscale ip. After settling up Tailscale and noting the NY ip address use it to set up the custom channel. Choose stream format hls and source as url with

http://100.xxx.xxx.xx:8089/devices/ANY/channels.m3u?codec=copy

For XMLTV guide data use

http://100.xxx.xxx.xx:8089/devices/ANY/guide/xmltv?duration=604800
