Remote tuner?

What would be the possibility of adding a remote tuner to either the client or the DVR backend? Today tuners can be added by ip address, but it seems like that would need to be enhanced to be able to include a port number (ie; port forwarding on the remote side) and a quality rate.

Use case would be to be able to remotely stream content in another area say for example where you might have previously lived and still have friends/relatives that could host the tuner.

Upload bandwidth on the remote side could definitely be an issue for smaller internet packages but many now have packages that should be able reliably stream at a decent quality level.

It is already possible to add a remote tuner to the client by connecting to a remote DVR.

Recording from a remote tuner is not possible.

Yes, I understand that. But, I have no need for a second and remote DVR. Only a remote tuner. And, I’m not interested in recording from a remote tuner; only watching from it.

In that case you could look into setting up some sort of VPN, so you would be able to add the remote tuner by IP.

We have no plans to allow remote access via HDHR port forwarding, as it is insecure and means anyone could connect to the tuner from the internet.

Yup, was trying to avoid the additional and expense. But, yes, I had thought of that as well.
