Thanks for setting this set up. Excuse my bluntness, but if you don't understand why this was removed so quickly, you probably should no longer use a computer or the internet. At all, I would recommend a flip phone. I think it's for your own personal safety at that point, just to protect yourself from getting scammed by a kind prince.
For those who are complaining about the developers for removing this so quickly, again, try a flip phone. They do still make them.
I think the consensus in the original is that there was no real notice (via email or webui) which probably would've aided in the migration to other solutions. Saying that tho, it made sense to immediately remove the feature for security reasons as you have said
Many Channels users here are technologically literate otherwise that flip phone recommendation would make sense (and I don't think people would be using Channels anyway if they were technologically illiterate
They would just use the DVR from their cable/sat company instead lol)
Yes, but those who are complaining about this may be dinosaurs for all I know, and clearly have no idea about all of the CVEs that were out last week. Like, I'm not even talking about the PHP vulnerabilities, but like genuine CVEs related to Tailscale that were unpatched.
I'm just saying, if you're that freaking clueless about how dangerous these vulnerabilities are and that the developers were actually doing you a favor by removing this without any notice, then you probably should just unplug your router and go live under a rock.
I have a feeling those that were complaining weren't running on Proxmox, Debian, Ubuntu, Unraid. Any home labber has the sense to realize that this was actually like a good thing that was done and proper security measures were put into place to protect the end user.
It doesn't take a lot of common sense to quickly set up a tailscale service, tag your box, run the serve commands, and set ACLs. It takes a few minutes. I did a service to the community by writing a guide on how to do that for those who don't know. That's all.
Oh, and I see a plethora of many Channels DVR users quitting now. I see this on Reddit too because of the issues with TV everywhere, as well as cable cards being discontinued because they have no idea in their right minds how to set up any other solution.
People like us know what they're doing and can configure these solutions. However, there are a lot of users that use this product that are dropping it because they have absolutely no clue how to maintain it.
My favorite thing, by the way, is when people start whining about having to use Docker. I love that. That makes me laugh so hard. Because Docker is the easiest thing on the freaking planet.
Well...theres your problem: you went to Reddit lol
I know theres a few people here already developing solutions for TVE even going all the way and developing their own competing DVR app and with the help of AI tools, it makes it a bit easier to do that. Most of those people are also technologically literate. I think whats gonna happen is people is gonna think with their wallets and figure out the options they got on hand to combat the every changing pay TV industry
As for people complaining about using docker to install Channels, you can also use Channels natively BUT I don't think people care for that
Obviously, I would only use docker for linux server setups but yeah.
I've been working on an IPTV proxy lately just for fun. I even managed to get any VOD content from providers into Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby.
My next thing I am adding to it is universal support. You set a variable, channels stuff is disabled and it goes straight M3U, XMLTV guide and HDHR emulation.
As a professional in IT security you should know that part of your job is to educate the community. Speak in therms they understand such as your computer could be taken over by others and then used to steal from your bank account, to place orders using your credit cards, etc.
There is no reason to be insulting like this!
I have never found you to be pleasant.
Kindly refrain from addressing me in the future or utilizing any of my various contributions to the community.
I suggest that this is not always true. A lot of younger folks seem to think that because something is natural for them, it ought to be so for everyone else. This aging dinosaur has always had a mental block when it comes to Docker. I really don't know why. I must have a missing synapse somewhere.

Fortunately, I have received very kind and helpful advice from many of the good people in this online community, including yourself, and @Morris_Altman. Thankfully, @bnhf helped me set up Portainer (through Project One-Click), so that I don't have to bang my head against the wall with Docker any more.
As an older guy who sometimes struggles with the complexities of this modern world, I'll admit that there are times when I warmly reflect back upon my flip-phone days. For the future, I hope that we can all interact with the helpful civility and respect I have received here on this forum.
