REMUX Remote but not Local

Why is ch5903 (LOCAST KTLA) doing Remux to the Remote Apple TV but not the Local (LAN) Apple TV. Not sure if both Apple TV's are using the same release.

Activity
Watching ch5903 KTLADT from 192.168.11.112
Watching ch5903 from 107.184.144.244 (Remux Running: 3h32m23s @ 1x (30.03fps))

IIRC, local streams are MPEG-TS, remote streams are HLS. Therefore, remuxing is necessary because the container is different.

Do you have any idea why? I checked the client on Apple TV and it says Stream Quality ==> ORIGINAL for both local and remote streaming. With my Gigabit Internet I would prefer that the streaming for both local and remote be the same to reduce as much overhead on my DVR as possible. I use PLEX as well for Movies (not tv shows) and it just streams the movies with very little overhead on the same server I use for Channels. My guess is there is simply a reason I do not understand and maybe there is something I could do about it if I understood?

Remux adds very little overhead. There is no video decoding/encoding/transcoding happening.

In-home streaming can assume low latency and uses a single TCP stream. Remote streaming requires HLS because there can be high latency and the client needs to be able to reconnect/retry in case of transmission errors.

Thanks for the reply. I assume this is the case for both Live TV streams and for Imported Movies. I agree that there seems to be low overhead doing Remux (at least a single stream) but I thought I saw more overhead playing a movie (maybe not). I will need to do more testing and if I find out anything concrete I will get back to you.
