I’m building a new server soon and will have an ssd specifically for plex transcode caching, I would like to use it for Channels as well. Is there a way to manually set the transcoding cache location?
Not at the moment. You could symlink the Streaming directory to a different drive though.
Finally getting around to setting everything up on the new sever… how are files moved around in the DVR? Is there a directory for incoming recordings than gets analyzed for commercials and then moved to a different destination directory? Time shifting cache for live viewing is all stored on the front end device correct, so the transcode directory would only be used for any stream that isn’t done at “original” quality?
Files are never moved.
Ok, so the comskip data is just added to the original file, the only time new writes are performed are during temp transcodes for streaming and the initial recording?
Could you possibly write a guide for manually installing the jail with iocage, with the options of having the jail and storage on different volumes and how to symlink the streaming direct to a 3rd transcode volume/dataset?
@tmm1 Could you provide instructions for installing on freenas with an iocage jail? There are guides for doing this with most other programs but I’m not sure how to proceed to Channels and would rather not have to migrate later on.
The jail would be installed on an SSD, storage on my main pool, and transcoding done on a separate ssd.
Sorry but I don’t have a freenas setup here and have never used iocage.
Oh well, I’ll do some more digging and see if I can get it. Thanks for the quick response.
