Request: Web streaming without transcoding

Hi there,

As the title suggests, I would like to request a way of watching media via the web client natively. Right channels will transcode content to whatever you set it to.

I have gigabit symmetrical internet at home, and I don't see why transcoding is necessary unless it's a legacy browser support thing?

I mostly use channels on my phone, but I recently purchased a 2nd hand Tesla, and it would be awesome if I could watch channels content on it. Last time I tried to watch Live TV (HDHR) or shows in my library, it was super laggy and took about 1 minute to build a 3 second buffer.

The car had full bars of service, but I tried tethering my phone anyway and I still had no luck getting smooth playback on the car. My phone reported 300mbps on 5G, I reckon the issue is due to transcoding. Which is why I would like to request an option to play without transcoding the files like you can do on the client version.

I'm not asking to get rid of transcoding, I understand that having a fast upload speed is fairly rare still. But for those of us who do have a good upload speed, it would be great if we could watch the native files via the web client

Maybe add a "no transcode" player to the drop down here:

I just saw the recent improvement to Intel hardware transcode DVR Pre-Release Notes, my GPU is an intel ARC I use for TDARR, so I'll go into my Tesla and test out streaming now to see if it's improved. Regardless, it would still be nice if there was the option to watch without transcoding and use the browser's native player

Its becuase moeg2 content cant be natively displayed in a browser. There is no option to not transcde. Other content can be played without transcoding no problem.

Would be cool if this was an option. I assume MPEG2 is for LiveTV, but my already saved h265 mkv shows should be fine to stream direct?

Very few web browsers natively support H265 and the few that do only support it on a limited set of GPU/OS combinations. You would also need to transcode the audio to AAC as most browsers do not natively support AC-3/Dolby Digital.

Our streaming pipeline is based on MPEG-TS segmenting and the HLS spec does not allow for H.265 to be sent as MPEG-TS but requires it to be fMP4. Because of that, we only support sending Original quality of H.265 to our apps (where we can handle MPEG-TS H.265) because we control both sides of the connection.
