Adding to this thread as this is a cool idea, but one that I anticipate is out of the scope of the TV/DVR capabilities.
Setup: 5 AppleTV4k with media (~2,000 movies) stored on a Synology NAS. Same box Channels is installed on.
Software: MrMC (XBMC / Kodi Fork), Plex (lifetime Subscription)
Media Acquisition: DVD / BR rips (handbrake), Apple Movies Downloads / Conversions to M4V (Tuneskit)
Naming Conventions: I use a hybrid of Plex and XBMC/Kodi naming convention that works with both.
MetaData Acquisition - Tiny Media Manager: I use this tool to scrape and generate the nfo file and image files which both MrMC and Plex (with plugin) read to keep the exact same metadata across both platforms. If left to their own scraping I would get wildly different metadata and images which is extremely annoying given my OCD (haha).
MetaData Storage - MySQL: I use MySQL in conjunction with MrMC to have the 5 ATV's pull the metadata out of the database than trying to read the NFO itself. This feature is primarily to keep from having to manually update 5 devices everytime a movie / tv show is added.
