Return to Current date in time in Guide

I often record shows days in advance using the guide. Once I get to the end of the guide I want to come back to the current date and time. Is there a way to get to the current time other than holding the left arrow?

As in a dedicated shortcut/button to "Return to beginning?" No, such a feature does not exist.

Are you using the web app? You can use the Time drop down box and choose 'Now'. This sems to take you back to...well...now.

This is the most infuriating thing my wife and I find when using AppleTV.
Raised it before, others have too… you defo have my vote!

I would like to see clicking on back when in the TV guide it initially returned back to present date & time. Simples??

For god sakes people, just press back to go back to the categories when you are three years ahead in the guide, change categories and go back to the category you were in and that will reset the guide back to the present.

Are you sure this works on the wide range of devices out there?

That’s up to you to figure out. It works for me.

That was my point.

You made no point, you asked a question, I answered then you made a statement.

You can try what I suggested instead of making no sense.

My point was that you said "It works for me" along with a "For god sakes people" preceding that. It was an obvious point, sorry you failed to recognize it.

I thought I'd point out the wide variety of devices out there likely leaves many frustrated people if their device doesn't happen to work like yours.

Well, I may not have made the original comment, but your point of myriad devices doesn't really hold water. There are 2 platforms—Apple and Android—and both require a dedicated Back button, and an OK/Select button. Is there any platform you are familiar with that cannot use the Back button to activate the sidebar/menu and the OK button to make a selection?

Neither of my 2 Android tablets have remotes, nor my phone. My Shield Pro does not return to the current time in the guide with the previously mentioned workaround. Seems that I need to delete it from the recents in the Shield OS to get Channels DVR to reload the guide upon restart.

That's why I think this is a useful feature requested by the thread starter.

Do they not have the system bar, which shows Home, Back, and Menu? If not, how can you navigate the UI?

I don't necessarily disagree with you there.

They do, but it doesn't matter because using them does not return me to the current time in the guide, which is the point of this thread by the original poster. I have zero issues navigating the UI, but getting to the current time on all of my devices is an exercise in frustration.

I also requested this feature a while back as well. While there are certainly workarounds to do this as previously mentioned above, it's not very intuitive. Since we use the right navigation button to scroll into the future and left to scroll back it would be nice to, for instance, double click the left button to return to current time.

You may want to get your blood pressure checked…chill out dude. We are all in this together. No need to get all wound up over a simple question.

I’m sure my wife would cope with that little idea. :innocent:

using the apple TV app. There is no "now". I also do not see an "now" on the IOS app either.

The IOS doesn't have a "back" and I have categories removed from view as I don't use them. But I Guess I would need to enable them for this workaround for something that could be handled a lot easier. But I guess I found another work around since you offered the above. Force closing the app and launching again also restores the guide to current date/time. I guess the question is should we have to force reset the app in order to restore the guide or some other workaround. But is what it is.

A more "Apple" shortcut to get to "Now" would be to tap the "Guide" tab while on the guide. This way you could navigate as far into the future as you like, and tapping the Guide button at the bottom would take you back to the beginning. (I know of several iOS apps that work this way—tapping the current tab to return to the beginning—but for the life of me I can't recall one right now.)

It's also tough, because the typical iOS paradigm of touching the top of the screen to go to the top does just that: it returns you to the first channel. It'd be nice to maybe extend this for a horizontal application: touching the left of the screen—just to the left of the station/channels—would bring you to the beginning.

So, there are my 2¢ on how to bring this functionality to iOS/iPadOS. Too bad this same paradigm doesn't extend to TVs, though.
