Reverse proxy instead of open port?

If I have a domain and a reverse proxy, can I use that to point to my own channels.mydomain.com rather than opening port 8089?

I gave it a try. The reverse proxy works with 8089 open, but it will not authenticate if it is closed.

Try using the built in Tailscale VPN or set up Tailscale exit node on another host. Other VPNs will also work.

That is a good option, but I don't want to install Tailscale on my devices in order to access Channels. And while I do sometimes use a VPN remotely, I don't want it to be required. I was really hoping to be able to close the port and then use my own domain with https. But maybe that's just not an option.

Search the forum. It has been brought up before, since January 2017.

Fair enough. I should have done some searching first.

Yeah...reverse proxies isn't supported. Just use tailscale instead if you're looking for a more secure solution for remote viewing

It would be great if Channels had a way for users to specify a URL that is then published to their DNS. Plex makes this easy as an option in the network settings...

Admittedly, I have no idea how hard this would be to implement, but I assume adding a network setting in the UI with an accompanying API call to overwrite the provided Channels domain wouldn't be too big of a task.

@tmm1 @maddox any thoughts on this? Would this be any different than modifying the port for an account?

It is called a CNAME. Just publish it in your own DNS

You're missing the point, that does nothing for the app discovery or authorization.
