I was able to piece together my current RPi4 only with the help of a step-by-step video by Lon.tv. If I go the Beelink route but have zero knowledge of Linux, dockers, Ubuntu, etc, what’s the best way to proceed? Is there a similar dummy guide to follow?
Do you know Windows?
I switched from a RP 4b using the Channels Dvr built image, to a Beelink Mini S computer just this week, and I am using it with the Windows 11 Pro it came with. It'll work just fine with Windows.
As for using Docker, I haven't got into that as of yet, that'll be next on my list. But Docker has a Windows version, so that's doable also.
If you don't need to do transcoding or tveverywhere (which fewer and fewer tv stations support every month anyhow)...
And if I understood the developers message they simply are not going to support the "special image" version...but it will still be able to be updated through normal linux.
Hopefully the developers will verify if this is correct.
If that is the case...I believe you could.
- Do the datatbase backup
- Install straight up RPi Raspbian linux on the Rpi4 using their instructions.
- Follow the guide here on installing CDVR on linux
- Restore Database
Here are the install notes on the Rpi4 from above link
Install Notes
Channels DVR Server can be installed on your Raspberry Pi running Raspbian using our standard Linux instructions.
Hardware Transcoding support is no longer fully supported on Raspberry Pi 4
TV Everywhere sources are not supported on Raspberry Pi
I am also running on a RPi4 and this is what I am currently planning on doing between now and May. I gave up on TVEverywhere last year and don't need to transcode.

Yes I did.
No need to transcode but I do need TVE (her HGTV) so I’ll need a different server.

Have you thought about replacing the TVE with one of the adb encoder projects (adbtuner or ah4c) instead to future proof your system?
Setup docker using a guide on the same Rpi running CDVR and pick up a cheap/used hdmi encoder.
