Run channels in a VM or container on QNAP

Just wondering if anyone is doing either currently. Looking to move to a QNAP TS-251A to run channels, along with my UniFi controller and Plex. Was thinking of utilizing the Virtualization station option so I can play with one while not breaking the others.

Thanks

I would recommend installing the qnap app we have to run directly. That way you can take advantage of hardware accelerated video encoding and don’t lose anything in the virtualization layer.

A lot of people have both Plex and Channels DVR installed on QNAP. They don’t really interfere with each other.

Note that if you plan to use Virtualization Station, you should install it first and change the settings for the https port to be something other than 8089. Then install the Channels DVR app.

Another disadvantage of running in a VM/container is that it makes networking complicated, and can make it tricky to get Bonjour auto-discovery of the DVR or Remote Access port forwarding to work.

Understood, thanks for the quick feedback!
