Same frequency OTA channels

Ok here’s a new one on me….
So in scanning channels (set up is HDHomeRun duo and channels app antenna on roof).

  • scan results in 44 channels but there are at least two that are the same frequency 34.1
  • scan picks up WRAL+ (has banners on side and below)
  • yet there is another 34.1 available

How would one get both? Is this the example of atsc3.0 vs 2.0.

No, these are just two low power TV stations serving your area that are transmitting on two different frequencies, but are using the same digital channel numbers. You just happen to be in an area that has the same signal strength for both of them. You might be able to "sort" them out if you have a directional antenna.

No. The duo, is ATSC 1.0

Those with ATSC 3.0 tuner and 3.0 stations, they start at channel #100. And will say HEVC and probably DRM in the HDHR web GUI.

ok Roger that... now additional information... on firetv (only) not my primary AppleTV on channels grid I get the 34.1/ call letters on WNGT but it plays 34.1 WRAL+ which is the other channel sharing the 34.1 frequency..... on APPLE TV channels app 34.1 IS the WRAL+.... so adding this additional information..... so upgrading from HDHR duo to a newer ATSC 3.0 would not separate and show both???

None of those stations are 3.0. It would make no difference. Sounds like you may have some thing not mapped right in your Channels DVR server for those channels.

I do not recognize the image you posted. Where is that from? it is not Channels DVR...

You can check this site for what locations have ATSC 3.0.

Also, on that site, is info on what stations are broadcast in what markets. You can look up your area and see what is offered.

thanks for that (and quick replies) here is the issue?

34.1 I highlighted them in red... .

right now the WRAL+ news is on as I just did another rescan...

simple thought is that the WRAL is more powerful than the other one hence thats the one that is picked up.... both show on the air both show ATSC 3.0 ... now to be clear my HDHR duo doesn't have the ASTC 3.0 tuner... which is why I thought perhaps I should upgrade.

Looks like he was right. 2 stations on the same channel numbers. Odd.

And, since u have ATSC 3.0 area... why not give it a shot with the HDHR Flex 4K. None of them have DRM in your area. (assuming that site is up to date)

Edit: I guess they were ATSC 3.0 stations. I was told on here that they always show as #100 + on HDHRs though....

If you look here, WARZ-CD | TV Stations Wikia | Fandom, WARZ, Channel 34 is a low power religious station out of Smithfield, NC.

Thanks all 4K flex should be delivered today for test,
