Done. After long (>1min) wait it loaded video with not audio.

Thanks. I think the url you're using is old and doesn't have the correct audio pid

Ok guys, this is for people like me a week ago that had never heard of SAT>IP.

I received my Kathrein exip 418 SAT>IP server yesterday, and with some help from [JonAllsop] and [neild7744] i have managed to get channels working on iPhones/Ipads and AppleTVs using a SAT IP server as a source.

So I can confirm the following:

Sky Q wideband dish and lnb are compatible with the Kathrein exip 418.
With the beta channels software installed on server and devices, you can view SAT>IP rtsp feeds on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.

I'm super close to cancelling Sky Q but would suggest the following needs tweeking:

Time between channel changes is a little too long at the moment but i believe the devs are looking at improving this. See above.

A HDHomerun style channel scan would be a massive help for users that are not familiar with the m3u playlist file.

Excellent work to the channels developers and also to the community for your support. I really do believe channels has massive potential to replace expensive Sky Q TV subscription in the UK.

For anyone interested in a m3u file that covers all UK free to air satellite channels, I have one that was very kindly produced by neild7744 using DVB Viewer yesterday for me. It saved me a huge amount of time and I believe this will be the main sticking point for most users at present.

The file was produced on 21st Dec 20 and contains all of the current settings/info for streaming using a Kathrein SAT>IP server in rtsp format. The file can be modified to suit your SAT>IP server and I suggest using a static ip.

Huge thanks to Neil

Please message me with your email address if you require a copy.

See if your Kathrein supports HTTP instead of RTSP. My Megasat SAT>IP server is much faster at tuning over HTTP. Just change the URL from rtsp:// to http://, open it in VLC and see if it works.

I assume you're planning to go with free-to-air channels only, as there is no way to receive Sky subscription channels without using a Sky receiver, unfortunately.

I did try the HTTP format but wasn't very successful in the channels app. Although the streams worked fine with VLC in that format. Is there a port that is required in the url? The following is E4 over RTSP with a port of 554 for the Kathrein Exip 418

#EXTINF:-1,E4
program=9241
rtsp://192.168.1.18:554/?src=1&freq=10714&msys=dvbs&plts=off&fec=56&pol=h&ro=0.35&sr=22000&mtype=qpsk&pids=0,16,17,20,263,2372,2375,2373

In response to Sky subscription channels, i'm only interested in free to air channels. I find myself using Sky Q mainly for freesat channels anyway and have Netflix and Prime to fill in most gaps.

The main appeal of SKY Q for me was multi-room and recording over a wired home network.

NOT ANYMORE, "Adios Murdoch and co! It has been expensive!"

Iā€™m finding the auto-mapping of channels very poor - pretty much only picks up E4 and CBBC. Did you have to manually map your channels?

Yes you do have to map the channels manually.

Kathrein will support HTTP, but changing over RTSP to HTTP within the m3u file will not work.

Every SAT>IP server seems to be slightly different. Mine doesn't require any port in the URL with either HTTP or RTSP. Have you tried with no port?

I painstakingly crafted my M3U file for Astra 28.2E by hand and it works a charm with my Megasat (all using HTTP). I can share it with you if you like.

You maybe able to either 1) Change the m3u channel name to match the channels DVR service ID or 2) modify the program number to match the channels DVR service ID for easier mapping.

I just manually map the channels.

Can you share a single channel in the forum so i can try it with VLC?

I recommend you use gist.github.com to save a copy, then you can track changes and also use the "Raw" links directly in your dvr as a M3U URL

For example I created this sample: https://gist.github.com/tmm1/496e4dacb2213c9318832b1f946d24f1

Which can be added to the dvr with this URL:

https://gist.github.com/tmm1/496e4dacb2213c9318832b1f946d24f1/raw/test.m3u8

Here's my URL for BBC1 HD:

http://192.168.1.12/?src=1&freq=10847&pol=v&ro=0.25&msys=dvbs2&mtype=8psk&plts=off&sr=23000&fec=34&pids=0,260,5400,5401,5402,5403

For Kathrein to stream via HTTP, you need to remove the 554 port address.

And here's a snippet of what my M3U file looks like:

554 is the default rtsp port. It can be omitted from the URLs, then it's simpler to switch between http/rtsp by changing the beginning only.

Also it would be better to start using satip:// in the urls instead of rtsp://. SAT>IP boxes don't use proper RTSP, so satip:// url makes it more clear to the client that it should use the specific SAT>IP version of RTSP protocol. VLC and Channels DVR both work with satip:// urls.
