Saturday night, computer power cycled on its own

I was recording both the Michigan football game as well as the world series.(via HDHR).
I was fully expecting having to utilize my DVR as a backup to piecemeal the missing action.

To my surprise, when I looked at the recordings (HDHOMERUNPRIME tuner) - I did not see any missing action, I thought perhaps the 1st recording would stop, and then maybe have a 2nd recording with a gap, or maybe 30 seconds of blank recording...etc

So color me very pleasantly surprised that everything turned out OK.

But can anyone explain why everything was OK? Obviously I don't like the fact that the HTPC cycled, and my 1st order of business is to make sure it gets even more proper ventilation. or somehow fix the issues that caused it to cycle

It was recording 2 programs while tuning into another game for display. This did happen to me once earlier this football season, and since then I've been careful to only have the HTPC tune in to HDHR, and not be on ESPN+ or other "web sites". which i believe is more CPU intensive.

always appreciate the extra knowledge that this board provides.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

What OS are you running on your HTPC ?

One of the nice things about Channels is that if it shuts down in the middle of recording, when Channels comes back up, it just continues the recording(s) right to the same file(s). The recording will say interrupted in the manager. The only thing you’ll notice is that something is missing at the time the recording was interrupted.

It was probably missing, but too short and unimportant to notice. Probably if you closely examine the recording, you might see one runner on 1st and then a tenth of a second later that runner on 3rd with a slight hiccup in the audio.

i was thinking it would have been more like 1-2 minutes, ....but did not notice that in the scan i did

It probably was a minute or two missing. I just meant that the runner made it 2 bases in an impossibly short period of time watching the video.

I see the glitches now, baseball was in commercial and i still caught 1st pitch of next inning, and in football it was in an injury time out, no missing action.

I THINK it was overheat, but i am not pleased that the PC blue screened and reset; will have to trouble shoot that

Windows has a bad habit of force rebooting after certain updates ... that is one of the reasons I moved to UBUNTU.... and I am a Windows guy but not for an always on server.

a cursory search leads me to want to UNCHECK the automatically restart box

I NEVER had this issue with win 7; maybe its a win 10 thing, maybe its a "my computer is 8 years old thing"

I ended up moving my server OS to Windows 10 LTSC and have not had that problem since ... and no bloatware, or even Microsoft Edge for that matter.
