Scheduled recording does not stop when expected

I have had a little bit of an issue where recordings seem to keep on going well past their scheduled time slots.

I have a recording going on right now that says it is from 11/22. And it is actually writing content to the disk right now.

The Log file is huge, its around 80MB, will need to upload it and more data when I get home.

The first recording I have is Last Man on Earth, and its 350GB for one recording. Showing record length of 13 hours.
Something is way off.

Wow that’s very strange.

Can you copy/paste the OS/CPU section from the top of the DVR settings page?

Also the recent messages from the Log tab might indicate the problem. There usually aren’t more than a few lines printed per recording unless there’s something strange going on.

Switching to another tab and then back sometimes fixes the upload.

And the DVR is still saying it is recording a show that was from 11/22.

“Recording ch1412 for The Shannara Chronicles until 10:01PM.” It is S02E09, from the file name in my disk activity.

Is your hdhomerun firmware up to date?

Email has been sent. My firmware is not the latest. I tend to not update firmware unless it is a known issue that requires the firmware to be updated. I remember this being discussed when I last got on these forms for a recording not being in HD but in SD, and turned out the channel was removed from my lineup because I have channel scans disabled on the HDHR software.

I’d highly recommend upgrading to the latest stable firmware. It’s been released for several months with no known issues and has multiple fixes since the beta build you’re using.

I think I see the problem in the logs. The recording started as expected:

but then the tuner disconnected, just seconds before the recording was supposed to end:

When errors like this occur, the DVR tries to reconnect to resume recording. But by the time it resumes, there’s no time left which makes the DVR try to record for -9ms which is treated like infinity.

Obviously the DVR should not get so confused by a negative calculation here. I’ll fix this for the next build.

But I’m pretty sure you’re running into this (and afaik no one else has) because of the older buggy firmware.

It’s pretty strange how often this is happening in your logs. It doesn’t sound like an HDHR problem on second thought (although I’d still strongly advise upgrading to stable firmware). Maybe something related to the clock on your computer… not quite sure. Do you have NTP sync enabled?

Could be a Windows 7 issue too. It’s almost as if different threads in the windows process are getting different values from the clock.

Anyway, I’ve fixed the nasty side effect it’s having on the DVR. A new pre-release build will be available in ~30 minutes. You can upgrade to it by holding SHIFT on the keyboard and clicking the “Check For Updates” button on the DVR web page.

I do have NTP sync enabled, not using the built in windows one, a 3rd party one that has failover in the event the first one fails.

Possibly an internet network issue that causes the tuner to disconnect?

I have had some sporadic and random network issues every now an then. But nothing to major.

I do have plans to swap out all of my routers I’m using because I have noticed that sometimes one of them can cause internet to stop working even though internet is routed through a different router that is not effected.

It might actually be a HDHR issue. I have seen in the firmware release notes about stability improvements, that might fix this.

Ill try to schedule some time to get them all updated to see if that helps. along with the code fix in the DVR software.

My PRIME used to drop off the network randomly too before the latest firmware. However the timing in your logs lines up way too often to be random behavior on the HDHR side.

Let me know how the new DVR build, firmware and router upgrades go…
