While my recorded program is paused and the screen saver active, pressing the play/pause button on my ATV remote will play the paused video, but doesn’t deactivate the screen saver.
Yes, I now tap the pad to stop the screensaver then play/pause.
Unfortunate, tvOS apps don’t have the ability to dismiss the screensaver or even know it’s playing.
Double unfortunately, pressing the play button doesn’t dismiss the screen saver at the system level, only the menu button does.
This is mostly a bug with tvOS 
Are you sure? I see this same issue too, but when it happens with netflix or amazon video the screensaver goes away when i press play. Just not Channels
These apps use the system video player which very well likely dismisses the screensaver when it starts playing.
Note: these other apps don’t dismiss the screen saver when they start playing. They only dismiss the screen saver when play is pressed. It takes a second press of the play button to start playing.
Channels tvOS 2.0 now behaves like other apps wrt the screen saver. Hitting play exits the screen saver and a second touch of the play button starts the video playing. Thanks for fixing this!
