Seasonal Virtual Channels

I was surfing through my media yesterday looking for cooking shows that deal with Thanksgiving meal ideas. Turns out I have a lot and I record more every year. I thought that this would be a good candidate for a new Virtual Channel but do I really want the channel in the guide all year long? I could just delete it later but it's a fair amount of work to set it up. Do I really want to build it and then tear it down every year? No.

That's when the thought came to me: Seasonal Virtual Channels. Virtual Channels that have a "air date range" setting and magically show up in the guide on the date set and automagically disappear when the range is over.

This wouldn't just be helpful with Thanksgiving cooking shows. It could be for Christmas movies (already tired of seeing my Christmas movie channel in the guide and it isn't even Christmas yet) And there are other times of the year where that might makes sense -- plenty of holidays with appropriate content. But also, if you have a lot of home movies, you could have a family member channel show up on their birthday or anniversary.

What do you think?

I do seasonal channels, but have no real need to hide them when they’re out of season. I just let them get lost in the mix.

I use Channel Collections to get them more visible when they’re in season.

It seems more like we need a way to hide/fav these virtual channels like normal channels.

Having a date range is a lot of complexity for such a niche reason.

Yeah, I thought about that. But it's so much more fun when you guys automate my life
