Section for incomplete episodes?

I think what RockandRoller70 is asking for is a "Continue Watching" section with a list of those episodes/movies that would appear in the recordings list with a [Continue Watching] button, i.e. UnWatched and PlaybackTime > 0 secs.

Exactly.

What Maddox is stating is that 'Up Next' already includes exactly that. ie: UnWatched and PlaybackTime > 0 secs.

So really, you are asking for a new view that is a filtered version of Up Next. Basically stating that there are too many features that do too many things. This reduction of 'Up Next' certainly is not beneficial for all users, though... it would have to be an option.

I have to disagree with that. When viewing Up Next in the web UI, that example partially played episode does not appear.

I'm not asking for anything, was just trying to suggest that's what RockandRoller70 was asking for.

While we're on the subject of Up Next, perhaps someone can explain how they're sorted. They're not sorted by recorded date/time or by OAD. Seems random to me.

No, they're sorted by last viewed date. When a program is watched, its next episode is moved to the head of the list. If you partially watch a program, the partial viewing is moved to the head of the list.

Also, if a recently watched program records a new episode, but there are no current episodes recorded, the newly recorded episode goes to the head of the list. What heuristic is used to decide when a "recent" new recording gets added to the "Up Next", versus just showing up in the "Recent" section, though, is a mystery to me.

Must be different for clients. I use the web UI. I see one entry (episode) per show in the Up Next list. It's always the episode with the oldest OAD for the show. If I have episodes 1, 2, 3 and 4, then episode 1 appears in Up Next. If I then partially watch only episode 3, episode 1 still appears in Up Next, not episode 3. That's why I don't use it, doesn't make sense to me.

Nothing about it ever made sense to me. My DVR isn't Netflix.

It’s simple. The show order is based on what you watched most recently. That’s it. If there is an unwatched episode of a show, it will appear in Up Next, in order of how long ago you last watched that show (most recent first). If you’ve watched two other shows since that one, it will be third in the list (assuming those other two shows still have unwatched episodes). Once all episodes of a show have been watched, it vanishes from Up Next until a new episode is recorded. One other thing to remember is that only so many shows are displayed, you may have to click the blank tile to see shows you haven’t watched recently.

It will show the oldest unwatched show first, since that’s almost always what people want to see next. If you skip the first two episodes of a show and watch part of the third, but leave the first episode marked unwatched, it will always show the first episode. But that’s an unusual usage.

Must be clients behave different than the web UI.
In my case I have multiple episodes from 11 shows.
The oldest episode (OAD) for each of the 11 shows appears in Up Next.
This is how they're sorted and I see no pattern/reason for this order.

So, the oldest unwatched would be Man, Woman, Wild if it went by either recorded date or OAD.
I don't watch the shows/episodes from clients or the web UI. Maybe that's why there in a wierd order.
I watch them outside of Channels using VLC (variable speed playback) or edit adverts out and archive outside of Channels.

It doesn't go be either recorded date or OAD. It goes by what SHOW you last watched... based on the date that you watched it.

That explains it. I don't watch them using Channels.
Except for occasional testing of new Channels DVR pre-releases.

Thanks to all who replied for the explanation.

I can see it being used for series programs (ex:Outlander), but other episodic shows (ex:Building Off the Grid) can be watched in any season/episode order.
