Selecting which channel to record on is painful

When searching for shows, please consider NOT grouping programs on multiple channels. It is painful.

Example, see attached. Search, select movies, see "Driving Miss Daisy". Notice it's on 54.2 (SD) and 9.1 (HD). I can't choose. So I hit record. Then I have to check the queue, notice it's recording on 54.2—which I don't want, delete the queued recording, go find the movie in the guide on 9.1 and hit record again.

It would be so much simpler to have an entry for each channel and let users pick the channel they want.

The DVR is smart enough to pick the HD channel when both HD and SD are available.

You can also edit the job and force it to use a specific channel.

If you never watch that SD channel, you can also hide it in the channel editor and then it will disappear everywhere.

Channel grouping is a core feature of how the guide database works and is unlikely to change.

The DVR picked the SD channel. That’s what it said in the queue and this has happened before that it actually recorded the SD channel. I have two Extends and they both recognize 54.2 is SD and 9.1 is HD, yet the DVR is picking 54.2.

BTW, even if they were both HD, I would want to,pick the channel that comes in best.

That’s too bad. It’s not a feature for me.

I guess the only thing left is why it’s picking the SD channel.

You mean it made an SD recording? That movie is in the future so doesn’t seem like it recorded anything yet.

If by “picked” you mean 54.2 shows up first in the list, then yes that’s a bug. But it doesn’t mean that channel will be used to record.

Yes, this example is a future airing, but I have stated that it happened in the past. In the past was a different movie. It is why I am now looking out for this issue. Are you saying that, even though 54.2 is listed first —and the queue showed 54.2 would be recorded, that it would have recorded on 9.1? If so, I’ll delete the entry and give it a go.

Yes, the order listed is irrelevant. When it comes time to record, the DVR will give preference to any channels that are HD and/or marked as Favorite.

When was the last time you had this issue. If it happens again, grab the logs from the recording starting and we can figure out why the preference code isn’t working.

I think the easiest thing to do is duplicate the issue and report back.

To duplicate, I picked a movie that is playing tonight at 10 PM on ch. 9.1 (HD and recognized as so by the HDHomerun) and ch. 54.2 (SD and recognized as so).

As I previously reported, when I select these movies for record, the DVR schedule shows it will record on 54.2 (SD).

The movie is now next up and the log is showing it will record on 54.2 (SD):

2017/02/11 18:01:00 [DVR] Waiting 3h58m29.551044953s until next job 1486879170-ch54.2

I’ll post back when it starts recording with what channel was actually picked.

Hmm so on the web UI DVR Schedule, it doesn’t show the HD channel listed at all?

Okay I see the bug now. Sorry, should have tried to reproduce earlier.

Sounds like you already found the issue, but here's the screenshot showing the DVR schedule only shows 54.2.

There is an option in the device settings to remove the channels that you don’t want to watch or record. I use it to hide all of the DC channels that my antenna picks up, since my local city channels are mostly the same shows and the signal is much stronger.

This has been fixed when scheduling movie recordings from the web ui, but still doesn’t work from the ATV app.

This bug has been fixed in v2.1.17. Thanks for reporting it.
