Server not showing all activity

I’m not sure why, but the server isn’t showing all activity for active tuners. I’m running version 2021.05.05.0011. Here’s what silicon dust shows active on my tuners (correct) and here’s what Channels Server is showing (missing a tuner).

Any ideas?

Do you have tuner sharing enabled on your clients? By default, live streams are sent directly from the tuner to the client, bypassing the server; the server has no knowledge of live streams from HDHR tuners without tuner sharing being enabled on the client.

I apologize, I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking. I don’t typically use tuner sharing, but it should have no impact if I’m watching 3 separate stations on 3 separate Channels clients - right?

I understand if I was watching NHL network on 2 clients and NBC on a 3rd client, it might only show 2 tuners. If I’m watching ABC, NBC, and NHL, on 3 different Channels clients it should show all 3 feeds on the server under activity - correct?

But if you don't have tuner sharing enabled, then the server won't know about the streams. If the server doesn't know the streams, then they won't show up in the Activity view of the DVR server.

If ABC and NBC are from your HDHomeRun tuner you will not see them in the DVR activity. Unless you are recording them or using tuner sharing the DVR doesn’t monitor them.

Maybe I never noticed this before or had tuner sharing enabled… strange. I swear it always showed all activity in the past.

Thanks for clearing that up for me though.

Bringing up an old topic. I am experiencing this as well. I have tuner sharing turned off. What I have noticed is that my admin screen shows activity if I am watching on a browser or if the DVR is recording. But if I watch on an iOS device or a tvOS device, it does not show. The http://192.168.X.XXX:8089/dvr/events/subscribe page shows the same thing that the Admin screen shows and omits iOS/tvOS devices. Thoughts?

There you go.
How would the DVR know what the clients are doing?

When tuner sharing is not enabled, the client devices directly communicate with the HDHomeRun devices. The DVR server is completely circumvented, and therefore it has no knowledge about any clients streaming from any HDHR device.

@chDVRuser @racameron That makes sense. Thank you!

i've wondered about this. So when tuner sharing is off and the client pulls directly from the HDHR, that must mean that the stream is buffered at the client for trick-play functions like pause live TV or rewind.

Correct?

Yes, the stream is buffered at the client, but tuner sharing has no role in that. The stream is always locally buffered. There is no shared buffer for live TV in Channels. The buffer maintained on the server is the minimal needed to feed the clients for streaming and the disk for recording.

The live TV buffer has never been on the server.
