Setting up Channels DVR for Parents- Hardware Suggestion

Hello,

I have my own Channels DVR server running on my iMac M1 and it works flawlessly. I have been testing it for months and now I am ready to bring in family members after realize how stable and awesome this software is.

I am trying to come up with a low cost level set up for parents and other members. They have two homes, and I am thinking I would set up the server in the main home and they would watch sometimes in the second home. Both homes only have about 20mbps internet speed.

I need something that would be able to record multiple streams, as well as watch live tv etc... I am looking at a Mini PC for a setup but really don't even know what I need or what would be sufficient. ( Side Note: I have an Nvidia Shield Pro that I can install the server on but I wasn't sure if it had the horsepower to record multiple shows while watching live)

Any advice on $150 unit that would do what I need? I am open to Shield, Mini PC, Pi etc...

Any guidance is appreciated, Thank you!

Shield is not supported for DVR server anymore.

Beelink mini pcs are popular, just search the forms here, people have posted what models they use.

What’s the internet upload speed at your house? You could spin up a second server in docker install Tailscale on your Mac and on the shield TV. Give them the shield to use as a client setup to connect to your Mac that has their own server. Total cost is $0

You can manage the dvr locally for them or they can manage it via tailscale enabled pc.

Or buy a Beelink and put it at their house.

I may try this. Thanks for the advice
