Settings on Computer, Recordings on External Drive

I have a M2 Mac Mini I use for my server. I want to install the server on my computer, but utilize an external drive as the primary source for storing my recordings. What is the best way to go about this? I've figured out how to move the path of my DVR to the computer (up until this point, everything was on the external hard drive), but it looks like my recording path is defaulting to the computer first. I want it to default to the external hard drive, and if it fails for whatever reason, then record on the computer.

can't speak for mac, but I find it best to record to built in ssd, then move to usb drive. you could schedule this however often needed, but I move recordings older than 2 weeks. some shows I don't keep once watched, but it varies on when I decide to watch that show. with a 1tb internal I find that a good balance of keeping plenty of room for recording binges, while keeping the usb hdd fragmentation to a minimum.

I just realized you may be using a usb ssd so I hope someone has an answer for you.

Channels DVR doesn't do that.
You can move recordings to additional Storage Paths to be played back from, but it only records to the Primary Storage Path you define.

Is there a way to automatically have files moved? EX: at 1AM, all recordings move to external hard drive?

Additionally, in the settings, what does "Storage Paths" do under Library Database? I had assumed that that would accomplish what I wanted, and when the computer was full, automatically move files to the external drive? I now know form experience that is not the case, but I'm unsure of why else you would be able to specify additional storage paths.

Thanks in advance for the help!

You can do that, but Channels DVR does not have that capability (it runs on many different OS's).

One case would be you didn't plan on recording so much, ran out of storage space and want to add a new drive to record to, while keeping your older recordings on the drive they recorded to.
