Share your Home Assistant ideas

AppleTV users running Home Assistant will be happy to know that the integration update is out of beta and working well again. I just updated HA core and was able to link two AppleTVs on tvOS 15.3. Validation required me to enter 3 on-screen PIN codes, and after that, it was all pretty seamless. You can see status of your AppleTV's on the Lovelace dashboard UI, monitor what media is playing -- regardless of what app is playing it -- you can launch any installed app, and control/automate so many things too.

Yep, it is very cool! I have been using it to easily glance at what my kids are watching in another room or what I am not home, just to make sure they're not watching something we don't want them to!

Thanks for sharing. I hadn’t seen the point of the integration before this update.

Now to continue fixing my zwave devices after finally moving to Zwave JS :slightly_smiling_face:

Nice, is that the Mini Media Player? I'm starting to learn how to customize the dashboard.

It's a grid card:

type: grid
square: false
columns: 1
cards:
  - type: entities
entities:
  - remote.living_room
title: Living Room
  - type: media-control
entity: media_player.living_room

Thanks, I’ll try that out!

Hmm, I've got this working for the most part... but my Sonos soundbar doesn't have the volume slider on the top grid tile like yours does. I have to click the 3 dots to get a pop-up window which then lets me adjust volume. How do I get my "media_player.living_room" entity looking like yours?

Would probably work better for you if I weren’t an idiot and sent you the wrong thing.

This is my config for my Sonos soundbar. It’s just a entity card.

The second entity is for the night sound switch which I acutely use and automate. Keeps peace in the household at night. Literally.

Looking closer at what you sent I’m wondering if the difference is that I have my Sonos in a separate card from my AppleTV.

I got it working now, I just had to use an entity card instead of a grid card. Thanks, that was the bit I was missing.

I just came across this, seems like it opens up doors for new ideas:

With the release of Home Assistant 2023.7, they've added the ability to send deep links to your Apple TV to add more control to your home automations. Here is a quick demo using a Stream Deck and Apple TV 4K:

You can also now do things such as link directly to shows or movies on Netflix, YouTube, or control any app that has deep linking enabled. Many apps that have deep linking in their apps on iOS also have deep linking using the same scheme on tvOS. Here's some more info:

(look for the Deep Links section)

I’m very impressed by this Home Assistant add-on, it is really excellent. Supports Spotify, Tidal, YouTube Music, SoundCloud, Tune-in Radio, and more. One of the devs commented that the upcoming v2.1 will include support for Apple Music, too.
