Is the Shield TV (the tube one) worth it for a DVR server? Can it do two transcode streams?
Any other recommendations for a server besides a RPIE4?
Thanks!

The Shield tube does not have any USB ports so no drives can be attached. The tube is best used as a client.
The Shield Pro works well though.
It does have a Micro SD card slot though.
So u can expand the storage.
However, since the Tube model has less ram AND is 32bit OS, it is not suited for a Server device at all and Channels devs have stated they do not recommend it at all.
I use the Tube as a Client just fine.
Agreed the Shield TV Pro has worked quite well as a server for me.
I seem to get better performance running it on the MacMini. Every once in a while when I'm connected to the server on the Shield TV (2017) the device winds up having issues watching live content when a recording is finished and the commercial detection process is running. Now I'm watching a live stream of the local news from my work office so it's not a local live stream, but a remote location live stream. I've also had it happen a few times when I've been at home. I've never had the same issue running on the MacMini, but in all fairness I have a pretty powerful MacMini (2018 i7 processor) on my desk in the home office. When I upgrade my Synology NAS in the next year or so I'm curious to see how it runs on that.
