It is possible to get the Show Stats check mark out of sync with the display.
For example. Have show Stats display on CBS. Hit the back button. Pick fox 39 channel with Show Stats still on.
Go back to the Options screen, uncheck the Show Stats.
Check mark goes away but the Show Stats is still on the screen.
I also ran into a different outcome with the same steps where going to fox 39 the show stats disappears but the check mark box is still checked.
Kinda seems like it hangs and or might have to do with changing of resolutions between the two channels 1080i vs 720p??
