" The new device promises the ability to receive local TV channels over the air through a digital antenna, combined with Sling TV’s streaming service and, optionally, Netflix."
I’ll take a look but wouldn’t expect much. I tried the Sling TV streaming service and dropped the service after a couple of months. I found the interface was not helpful to find content and the quality of the video display to be very poor (especially with live sports). After a while the family no longer even tried SlingTV. I don’t expect them to nail OTA given my streaming experience.
I’m currently giving Directv Now a test. I find the interface much better then SlingTV and video display quite nice when it works. Trouble is the streams drop or stop all the time, especially during prime time. I’m fairly confident the issues are capacity related on their end. If they can work those out it would be a very nice service, especially at the $35/month introductory price.
When it comes to OTA I haven’t found anything close to Channels. Interface and usability is there, video quality is great and the DVR will be a winner as well. I’ve participated in the DRV alpha and it is already a good project with lots of potential to be great.
Sounds like it's a custom Android TV box, and comes with a USB tuner dongle:
The killer app would be to somehow combine Channels with an OTT cable service like Sling, DTVN or Vue.
The best would be if the OTT would work within channels, but Channels video player connected with an API would be good too. Ir maybe Apple could build something to combine apps like AndroidTV tries to do (and does not do well).
