Slow channel surfing

I just setup my parents with a ATV4k (2.gen) a HDHR Expand (DVB) and a mac mini running Channels DVR. All hardwired with ethernet.

As they are still quite old-school when it comes to watching TV they like to flip channels. As such I have set them up with the Channel Surfing option. Problem is that the channel surfing is quite slow (3-4 seconds to tune a channel). While this sounds like relatively fast tuning it isn’t compared to flipping channels on a traditional TV set.

Any idea that the issue could be? My understanding is the tuning of channels should only take c. 1 second.

Is tuner sharing enabled? If so, that may account for a bit of the lag. In order to achieve the fastest tuning possible, disable tuner sharing; that way the Apple TV will directly connect to the tuner.

(IIRC the Expand is a 4 tuner DVB-C device, correct? Essentially the EU version of the Prime, with the OOB tuner freed up for an additional stream.)

Tuner sharing is diabled.
Yes, the expand is a 4 tuner DVB-C device: https://www.amazon.de/SiliconDust-HDHomeRun-Kompatibler-Streaming-HDHR3-4DC/dp/B00YCNE66K?th=1

Originally I had the AppleTV setup via wifi, which led to slow channel switching. What surprised me was that it didn’t improve when switching to Ethernet.

Any way I can run some dianostics on the ATV or HDHR to figure out what’s going on?

Does the official HDHR app tune faster?
