Thanks. That was helpful. I find it interesting that a router can physically direct the wave in a specific direction.

I can’t stress enough how much an investment in ethernet is for a full home set up for Channels.

Your experience will be 10x that of WiFi. It’s glorious.

If you can’t run ethernet (and a lot of us can’t), invest in MOCA 2.0 bridge adapters. They’re worth their weight in gold and take minutes to set up.

Your seeks speeds will blow your mind.

How about Powerline adapters? Not so familiar with MOCA...I know what they do but have never set them up.

I used various brand powerline adapters for a few years and booted them from my home after I discovered they ate electrical switches/outlets.

Kept having light switches fail and after taking a couple apart discovered the powerline adapters high frequency modulation on top of the 60Hz AC power caused micro-arcing which destroyed the internal contacts.

There’s nothing to be familiar with. Just plug in your coax and ethernet. They’re as simple as power line adapters. It’s the same premise. Also there’s plenty of info on the internet for them.

Power line probably won’t get you anything faster than the WiFi speeds you have now.

One tip is that any splitters in your home on your coax need to be swapped out for moca 2.0 compatible ones. You can find them fine on Amazon.

Yep. Was just watching that. So here’s my situation...

Internet—Cox Router —Orbi Base — Orbi Satellite — iMac where Channels server is.

I guess I could connect one of the MOCA adapters to the Orbi satellite via Ethernet cable. Connect that MOCA adapter to the coax point. Then near my AppleTV connect it to another MOCA adapter and then connect that MOCA adapter to them coax point nearby?

You should have an adapter off your main point, which is your router. This is where your server and hdhomerun should be plugged in too. So they’re all equidistant from each other in terms of network hops.

I assume your orbi satellite is just a meshed AP.

I have my HDHomeRun Tuner plugged into my Orbi satellite on the 3rd floor of our home since that is where the antenna is. The Cox Router is on the 1st floor and connects to the Orbi base. My son does gaming and he is in the 1st floor and hardwired into the Cox router.

How is your Orbi Base connected to your Orbi satellite, wired or wifi?
If via wifi, I would connect the first MOCA adapter to your Orbi base instead.

It’s mesh connected. My Channels server is connected to the Orbi satellite. The antenna is also. Wouldn’t it be better to connect the MOCA to the satellite since all this stuff is closer and hardwired to the Satellite rather than the base?

With your current setup, yes. You just don’t get the advantage of wired data speeds for internet.

You could consider bridging your router and satellite with moca as well and have it powered by a wired connection vs mesh.

Thanks. I think the key is to get Channels working quickly with my ATV. I think my internet streaming has been fine.

They do make MOCA 2.5 adapters with more than one ethernet jack.
Each jack gets 1Gbit/s speed, so a 2 jack adapter will give you two 1Gbit/s connections.
