Sluggish jump forward

What would be some of the reasons it takes a while to jump forward 30 seconds while watching a DVR recording?

I didn't use to have the problem a month or so ago, but am noticing it a bit more these days. Not a huge issue but when I click right, it takes a good 5-8 seconds to jump.

Thanks!

Slow network speed between dvr and client

Nothing to do with perhaps my hard drive? I want to run disk utilities on it but it says that it is being used by Channels. How to temporarily release it?

Disk performance is unlikely to be the cause. As @tmm1 mentioned, most likely cause is poor network performance between the client and DVR server. Is the client hardwired or wireless?

Don't the Channels clients have a built-in speedtest that tests between the client and server?

I would think by unckecking the DVR checkbox while you run the disk utilities?

No luck in unmounting. Even if we disregard that the drive is not the issue, I am still wondering how to stop Channels so that I can run Disk Utilities on it..

You use the installer to turn it off and on.

Thanks. Would never had thought about that. Cheers!

So I did First Aid on my hard drive. Nothing really showed up. I rebooted the machine. Seems to help a bit but I am wondering if there are any network settings I could change that might help reduce the sluggishness at times?

My Apple TV is on one floor and my HDHomeRun tuner is on the top floor since that is where the antenna is. I have it connected directly to an Orbi satellite via ethernet, and I have that connected directly to my 2012 iMac via ethernet. I don't have anything else running on that iMac and recently installed a 1TB SSD replacing the old hard drive.

My Apple TV is the latest generation and it connecting wirelessly to the Orbi. I really don't want to run ethernet between the Orbi and the Apple TV since that would require some minor surgery on my home.

So, again, any network settings I should try to tweak that might help?

Thanks,

Tony

Have you run a network speed test between your iMac and Apple TV?
https://getchannels.com/docs/getting-started/faqs/channels-apps/#how-can-i-test-the-network-speed-at-my-tv
So from Safari or another browser on your iMac, http://x.x.x.x:57000/speedtest using the IP that you found for your Apple TV

You can try looking into changing your MTU up to jumbo frames. Just make sure all of the network equipment between the server and your clients support the higher MTUs.

Here's what I got...

Thanks. I have it set to 1500 already which seems to be the largest possible.

I just ticked these two first settings and the router rebooted. FF seems to be working better. Not sure if these two setting did anything or perhaps the router rebooting might have actually helped.

Ah, wireless. Then jumbo frames aren't really an option. You might want to investigate other ways to optimize your wireless, and check for outside interference.

I'm betting your speedtest numbers look better since you enabled beamforming.
My iPadPro 20 feet away from my router using beamforming gets 350.22 Mbit/s, 3.28 ms and 2.16 ms.
3 feet from the router it goes to 500 Mbit/s, 2.28 ms and 1.00 ms.

If you don’t already it’s also a good idea to occasionally scan the WiFi channels to choose the least busy ones, unless the Orbi’s do this automatically. Interference will kill wireless performance, and can be very intermittent.

Just an FYI... not sure if ticking those two settings, resetting the router, or just luck, but the sluggishness seems to be gone.

What does the speed test show now?
