Hi there. I use the browser UI as client because I don't have a TV. Nor do I want one. I did find a Kodi addon, but it doesn't work. Anyway, the android tv app looks a whole lot better than the browser UI. And the fact that you can skim through channels is nice. I'd like to see that feature being implemented. And having the ability to play a channel live when you click the channel logo would be nice too. The latter should be a quick fix by simply adding the "glyphicon glyphicon-play" class to the logo div.
And could you please add some keyboard control to the player, such as F for fullscreen, spacebar for pause / play and arrow keys for skipping, and perhaps ctrl+arrow keys to skip to the next / previous channel, or next / previous chapter in recorded video. And in the guide, having a filter search would be quite handy. You can use the filter function from "channel collections" to achieve this.
Welcome to the community.
While the thought is nice, don't hold your breath
I also use the web UI for playback sometimes and don't use a client device.
I use Channels DVR mainly to record programs.
The devs have always said it's an admin interface, not a client.
The only disagreement I have with your requests is
"having the ability to play a channel live when you click the channel logo"
I would prefer it does a pivot view on the guide and shows a guide for that channel only.
You can see an example of this at zap2it.com
You can already play what's on the channel by clicking the first (current) airing.
"You can already play what's on the channel by clicking the first (current) airing."
Right. But then I have to click Watch Now. Having the play button right there maybe as a hover above the logo would be one less step thus make skimming through channels faster. Adding a record/stop record button next to the play button wouldn't hurt either. I agree that the web UI should be a deve tool first. But no harm in designing it to work like a client too.
You can try using the android client along with the Bluestack android emulator on your computer. This is not the perfect solution, but it worked for me as a temporary workaround.
With Windows 11 in a couple of months we should be able to run Android apps natively. I'll be very fascinated to see how Channels performs!
@ babsonnexus Actually no. You'll be able to run older android apps through Amazon's store. Also, I'm not using Windows, but Ubuntu.
Even if I could run this app through Windows, it'd perform poorly as it's only emulation. Not native. In fact, I can run android APKs much smoother here in Linux using Android Studio. The Windows method is to run Anbox through WSL. So it's really emulation on top of their custom Linux kernel on top of Windows. I'm not sure if I would enjoy watching TV that way. At that point, why not just use the Kodi addon. I got it working btw. It's okay. A bit limited, but works fine.
Anyhow. That's off topic. My request is that the web UI can be optimized to also serve as a client.
