Some questions/thoughts on 01.05.2103

Hopefully I’m not just mentioning old news but here goes.

The Sort By Airdate button for a show doesn’t quite seem to work for me (or is hampered by the guide data), for instance Big Bang recordings show properly for record date, but by air date lists them as:

  • S10E12
  • S9E5
  • S9E4
  • S9E13
  • S9E12
    I’d think 13 & 12 would sit above 5 & 4

On that same topic, would it be possible to click it a second time and sort the opposite direction as well? Maybe even a Sort By Season button (This is something I’d love to see in the tvOS app as well)?

The other question I had is about conflicts. I tried recording 3 and watching 1 live show (which is a rather unlikely scenario with only 6 channels on 2 CONNECT’s, but why not  ) and then adding one more recording which resulted in nothing but the log listing the 503 error from the HDHR. Is this just a case of the UI not being ready yet? Or will a Live stream overrule a recording?

A couple small UI suggestions:

  • A status of the commercial detection on a shows info page would be handy.
  • A recording indicator for shows on the On Now page in the tvOS app would be too.

I must say the product is fantastic already, even more so considering how quickly you’ve done it. Great work!

Sounds like the guide data is wrong =(

Maybe sort by airdate can use season/episode number when available, and only fall back to the airdate otherwise.

503 from the HDHR means it didn’t have any tuners available. If tuners are in use, then the DVR cannot record. So yes, live streams will always overrule a recording. The tuners are basically first-come first-serve.

Not sure what you mean. Status as in enabled/disabled (which is in the dropdown already), or that it’s currently running (which is available on the main Settings page under Activity).

More improvements to the tvOS app will come after the beta launches publicly.

That makes sense. See it a fair bit up here, mostly with missing the description/season/episode.

Maybe sort by airdate can use season/episode number when available, and only fall back to the airdate otherwise.

That works. That way if the data is off you’re not jumping between seasons in Up Next

Would it be possible to have a notification to interrupt? I could see how that’d be difficult via the web, but possibly in app?

I guess my thought here was mostly for the apps (again) but could be handy on the web too. Just some sort of indicator if that particular recording was still pending or finished the detection (maybe similar to the CC/HD/Audio tags?)
