Sony TV Can't Find Channels DVR

I recently upgraded one of my TVs to a Sony Bravia A8H and cannot for the life of me get the TV to see the Channels DVR on my home network.. I have not had any trouble with Apple TVs seeing the DVR over WiFi.

The DVR is on my PC, connected via ethernet to my one router - the Bravia is connected to the home network via WiFi. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I am running Channels v2020.09.14.2100 on Windows 10. This is the error I get when putting in the IP address of my channels server.

Here is the console network log:

Check the IP addresses of all your devices. If you have 2 routers, you're probably on 2 different IP subnets so it can't discover it.

Here's an article that will help:

Thank you. I have one router - they're on the same subnets.

TV is: 192.168.1.113
HDHomeRun: 192.168.1.133
ChannelsDVR: 192.168.1.145

Can you click Help > Submit Diagnostics on the tv

Just submitted!

Please submit again but first enter the IP and try to connect to the dvr

Thanks - just did that and resubmitted.

It's not getting any response in 3s

11-12 12:13:26.583 26406 26406 V DVR : Status error: io.ktor.client.features.HttpRequestTimeoutException: Request timeout has been expired [url=http://192.168.1.145:8089/status, request_timeout=3000 ms]

If you click this link from another device how long does it take to load? http://192.168.1.145:8089/status

Interesting - loads in 1 second my PC (the same one that hosts the DVR) -- but doesn't load at all on my iphone - connected to the same wifi. I get "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding."

There you go then. Could be a firewall or some routing issue on your network equipment

Guest Wifi?

If you look at the status page for your router and view attached or connected devices, do you see your TV in the list?

If you open a cmd prompt on the DVR server computer, can you ping the TV's IP address?

On the DVR server computer, have you told Windows to classify the network as a Private/Home network? (this turns off certain protections)

No guest wifi is setup. Just one wifi in the home.

TV can be seen in list of connected devices in Linksys router.

I can ping the TV's IP address from another PC on the same network and from the DVR server computer.

The network is set to private in Windows 10 - have tried with firewall on and off.

I'm in the process of switching out routers anyway to boost coverage - once that's complete, I'll give this another go.

About 50% of the stuff on my home LAN are connected to my router over Ethernet, and the other 50% is connected wirelessly. I've found some routers do a better job than others at "bridging" the wired and wireless connections. My current Netgear router does an excellent job. I've have trouble in the past with D-Link routers.

I figured out what the problem was and it was very simple and stupid. There are two apps in the Google Play store - Channels Whole Home DVR and Channels Live (kinda confusing) -- I had downloaded Channels Whole Home DVR -- after uninstalling that and installing Channels Live - my TV connected instantly to the DVR on my PC -- now I just need to figure out how to record on Android TV -- I'm used to the AppleTV app...

Okay - so fully understand things now. I was able to configure Windows Firewall that was blocking access to the DVR was part of the problem. In addition, I didn't realize that the Channels Whole Home DVR is the actual FREE app that I wanted -- I compounded my dumbness by paying for the Channels App in the Google Play store when I'm already a subscriber.

I missed the fact that Channels started making that app free for subscribers. Thank you Channels and thanks all for the support.
