Source Filter?

On the HDHomeRun source that lists the channels, on the far right there is a +. When you click on that a window opens that says "Filter" and shows some channels in a dropdown. On some of the TVE sources instead of a + there's a pencil icon, and on other TVE sources there's nothing.

What are these "filters"... the + and the pencil icon... used for?
