Spectrum TV and Internet in Honolulu HI

Hello all,
I've been fortunate enough to have been offered a job in HI. Of course i'll have to leave my wonderful Verizon service and switch to Spectrum. I know nothing about them and love my channels setup. So I've called spectrum and got no real answer.

  1. Does spectrum DRM everything?

  2. Will channels work with Spectrum or am i going to have to shut it down?

I want to give a shout out to the programers. This app has been wonderful, it has saved me so much money and is lightyears ahead of anything the cable companies are offering. I hope to continue to use it.

I have not used Spectrum but others in my family could not use them because most channels have DRM. I think it might be based on location so you might have to test if no one has experience in that area. You could also check on the HDHomeRun Prime CC forums and see if anyone there has experience in that area.

But, I am pretty happy with dropping my Frontier FiOS CC some time back. I currently use HDHomeRun Quattro OTA for local channels and I use the New Channels DVR "TVE" for everything else. The issue is to find the best Streaming option to get the most channels you watch via TVE. You could even use your Spectrum Credentials if you felt you needed Spectrum but everything was DRM.

You could check out TVE before you leave if you have not done so already. Overall I think if you can simply use Internet and then stream everything else moving around because less of a problem.

I have found that PS Vue gives the most channels via TVE. Then Hulu Live.

Honolulu has broadcast towers. You can get all locals (ABC,NBC,CBS,Fox,PBS,MyTV,CW) with an antenna. Add on Philo for $20 and you have cable channels too.

Philo is a good add on option but it was missing some channels we need. But good prices if the available channels + OTA works for you.

Thank you...i've just been thinking about even getting PSVue and using the TVE interface...i'm not familiar with it but if it works like i think, it would be great for the wife...no need to learn some new interface...i may try it tonight with my verizon account...

Very easy to test using the Verizon Credentials. You can also change priorities on any Client and on the DVR. While testing here on my ATV clients I will simply disable all but the one Source I am testing to see which channels I am missing with that source and well it works.

Keep in mind you can also use the streaming app (like PS Vue) to get all of the channels you subscribe to if missing a few you need via TVE.

My wife also loves the Channels UI so this new TVE really solved my problem with dropping FiOS TV CC.

You may also find you can use multiple streaming services at the same or lower cost then you current FiOS Service with CC. They all merge together so from a client you do not know where they are coming from.

Example:

PS Vue = $50 (est for CORE)
Philo = $20
OTA = Free with hdhomerun quattro - local channels.

My wife like a number of channels on Philo that she does not get on PS Vue. Not sure what those are at the moment so maybe not a concern for your wife or yourself.

I live on the big Island of Hawaii and I concur with all the sentiments that you should just go with TV everywhere and local channels via an antenna and an HDhomerun Quattro tuner. The company I work for contracts with spectrum and even I wouldn’t use the HDHomerun Prime I have with a cablecard, if that tells you anything?
