Speed to DVR

I have 400 mbps internet speed down, 25 up.
Netgear r6000 router.
HD Home Run wired to router.
Windows 10 pc used as DVR server.
Channels on Amazon Fire Cube wifi connected to 5g router.
All in same room in close proximity.

Question:
Speed to DVR is about 100 mbps when PC is wired to router (which is the stated max for this pc model)
BUT....if I switch to wifi
Speed to DVR is 30-50 mbps when PC is using 5G and the status speed to the pc is over 400 mbps.

Am I missing something (probably). I am thinking the faster wifi from router to pc should result in faster dvr speed.

100mbps must be an ancient pc.

U sure it’s not 1000mbps?

A pc with only a 10/100 NIC is rare these days.
Most have gigabit NIC.

If your computer network adapter stats show only a 100 connection and not 1gig, might be an issue somewhere bad cable or something.

Yes, ancient. At least 5 years old.

That is not ancient.. computers as old as 15yrs have gigabit NIC.
If the integrated NIC is really that slow, or bad, then maybe get a PCIE NIC, if it a computer that has free slots.
You did not give any useful info other than "windows 10 pc".
What make/model and hardware specs?

Thanks but it is old and cheap. The question is, should a fast wifi connection be faster to the DVR than a slow wired connection.

You are better off having your server connected to your router wired through ethernet. Period.

Wired is always better, as its speed is usually always duplex, and has much less latency than a wireless connection.

Speed isn't everything; for a DVR, latency is usually a more important metric.

(Sure, your Volvo can go 100 miles per hour, but can it get to that speed as quickly as a Tesla?)

Is the cube connected by Ethernet or WiFi? If you're using Ethernet, try WiFi. I'm pretty sure the Ethernet port on the thing is only 100Mbps

Do a speedtest to the internet with the windows pc. You will probably see the same 30-50 mbps. You haven't said, but you may be using an ext. USB wifi adpater connected to a USB2 port. It will not be capable of doing 400 mbps that the adapter status may indicate. At any rate like others said, just use the ethernet port. It should be fast enough and much more reliable. If my theory is wrong, then nevermind.

Sounds like you are correct. Will be taking your advice.

Cube is wifi, and yes wired would only be 100mbps which would probably impact the other streaming apps.

The WIRED test shows about 85 down and 20 up, consistent I guess with the 10/100 ethernet limit.

Keep the cube wired too. Too many variables in wireless to cause problems. Although not state-of-the-art, 100mbps is more than enough for your streaming apps. You will only be streaming one app at a time and there is not a stream out there (at this time) that could saturate that connection with the possible exception of an app like Quadstream that streams multiple streams within an app. If you are using ChannelsDVR, Plex, Emby, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, etc. then you would have more than enough bandwidth for any of their streams. The only thing that might improve on your cube wi-fi setup would be commercial skip and/or ff/rew time and that is a big if because your server is only on a 100mbps connection.
