Speedtest for iOS is slow

I am getting about 70 Mbps up and down and 7ms with both an iPad M4 and an iPhone 16 Pro - Compared to 930 Mbps and <1ms with a wired Apple TV connection on the same network (All using my iMac DVR). The performance doesn't improve if the devices are in the same small room as my Archer VR300 WiFi modem-router. Switching Wi-Fi connections between 2.4GHz and 5GHz doesn't seem to make much difference.

Is this normal, or have I got a rubbish WiFi unit?

Could be any number of factors, but I would certainly consider stepping up to at least a WiFi 6 device.

  1. Placement
  2. Orientation
  3. Proximity to highly reflective surfaces, creating multi-path
  4. Congestion with neighboring WiFi access points on same channel.
  5. Proximity to other electronics emitting interference
  6. Etc.

Doh! Brain fade had set in. It's the Archer. Its LAN ports are limited to 100Mbps, I have it connected to a 1000Mbps switch that connects the DVR to the Apple TV. All WiFi traffic has to go up through the 100Mbps link from the switch to the Archer. Connecting everything through WiFi (not ideal) gives somewhere between 185 to 310 Mbps. I've reconnected the LAN, and will look around for a better WiFi modem router with Gbit LAN ports...
