When watching a live sporting event by clicking on the guide in the web browser, the event will play till the time it is over in the guide. Many sports events run past this time. Once we start watching a channel, can it simply play till we close the play?

Yes it should keep playing. It does work that way on HDHomeRun channels. What channel and source are you having problems with?
I was watching the Yes Network (576) via HDHomeRun PRIME fed by FIOS. I've had this happen two times. Once remote and also local.
I see the same thing playing Live TV using the web browser player.
Select something current in the grid guide and start playing. When the program ends, the player disappears.
I haven't reported it since I've been told over and over that the web browser isn't a client (it is mine) so I don't expect anyone to care about the problem. I just do the workaround of having to reselect the new current program from the guide to continue watching.
I'll have to remember next time I experience it to report if it was a Pluto, TVE or HDHR source.

I didn't realize this was happening, and think I know why. We are always open to bug reports, just that web player are the hardest to work on and low priority for us. This particular issue is easy to fix and a high impact bug.

I verified it's not an issue if playing from On Now.
It will continue to play after the program selected ends.
The only problem is the 'Back To The Future' issue when the first program ends.
This one was fixed in v2021.09.27.2323
