Anyone using an SSD for a recording drive? I’m using a spinning drive now. I noticed that the utilization spikes pretty high. I’m debating switching to an NVME drive and using the spinning drive to back it up. I don’t think it’s an issue, but I was just looking for confirmation and that constant writes won’t be an issues, at least for a decent amount of time.
SSD is not necessary for recording.
Any idea how many simultaneous recordings it should handle? I get spammed with messages in unraid about high utilization. Most of the time I have no issues. Once in a while some recordings stutter and are unwatchable. Very well could be a Comcast issue but I also have a lot of tuners.
I’ve been using the same NVME drive for over 5 years in my DVR. While an ssd is not required, personally I would never use a hdd. They are loud, annoying, and I don’t need terabytes of storage.
I've been using mirrored SATA SSDs for years. They use less power than spinning disks. Recording a few hours a day they should last many years.
