Starting with shield and channels on?

I am just getting started replacing a slew of (somewhat beloved) TiVos, cablecards, and Spectrum - was getting $ too much for too little, and probably a dead end.

All I have left really is YTTV as my only TVE source, a HomeRun is on the way to get started with ChannelsDVR.

I have here a Nvidia Shield that I have had for a while running apps and a Plex server with a USB SSD with a fairly full drive. Also an Raspberry 3B+ and a 4 also running a few other things and mostly redundant Plex servers and USB SSDs.

Trying to figure out what I could run DVR on... We have pretty light usage here tbh.

Can the Shield run the DVR and co-exist with Plex and share USB drive? Does the Shield still have issues with validating credentials with YTTV?

I really don't want to spring yet for a nice Ubuntu mini-box yet (and I am quite happy with Linux), still getting familiar with Channels. I could potentially deploy a retired Windows laptop for getting familiar with Channels.

Any suggestions on deploying a whole house DVR offering the spouse can get comfortable liking on a miniscule budget (probably existing hardware)?

I would probably go this route but ditch the windows and install Ubuntu on it. At least until you know if channels is going to work for you. Or the pi4 if you don’t plan on needing more than 1 remote transcoded stream.
