Stop A Recording In-Progress?

This might be a corner case.

Wanted to make sure not to miss any of the season premier of The Orville last night. Being as they chose to air it directly after a National Felons League throwing eggball game, there was a good chance The Orville would start and end late, so I added ninety minutes of padding to the end of the pass.

Wouldn't you know it: In something that's sure to make TV history, the eggball game and following program discussing the eggball game to death ended nearly on time.

That's when I found there appears to be no way whatsoever to terminate a recording in-progress.

Am I missing something?

Web UI
DVR > Schedule > Stop Recording

iOS
DVR > Scheduled Recordings > Click on show > Click on recording button > Click Stop Recording

Apple TV and others should be about the same. I can check if you can’t find it.

Does this retain the file? I'm a bit anxious about trying it in case it deletes the recording.

I've got a recording of a film that's happening now that I would like to end 1 or 2 mins early so that a following film can start.

Stop Recording does not delete.

Any plans to add a stop recording to clients? Thanks.

Can you be more specific?

I can currently select an in-progress recording in the Library (and similar views), and select "Delete" to stop and delete the recording.

Do you mean to simply stop the recording in situ, but leave the file in place? Or do you mean something else?

Yes. Stop the recording without deleting. Football playoff games need large padding just in case of overtime. I add an extra hour and that makes it a 4 1/2 hour recording. Game ends in 3 hours. Don't want to delete but don't need it recording another hour and a half. Thanks.

Yes, you can do this, too. Select the program from the guide, and when it prompts you to select to watch the recording or live, select live. Then, pull down the Quick Guide, and select the Recording button. Then from the popup window, choose Stop Recording.

Not sure how I missed that!

I even have my Harmony hub remote set to use the record button that brings up the same menu, and I also get that option there. Thanks a lot. Sorry for my confusion.

This is another instance (like not scanning for commercials on a series basis) where the features you want are there, but is is almost impossible to find them. The performance of this product is great, but it is so hard to fully use it.

I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say impossible, but indeed there are certain expected features that are not as easy to access as one would expect.

I personally believe that this is a holdover from Channels genesis as a program to simply view live TV, with no recording features at all. There are many inconsistencies across the app that point to features being "tacked-on", rather than part of a deliberate and intentional design. I'd like to think that a top-down UX assessment is in the works for the coming year, and with it true parity across all client platforms.
