I see the same ads often and sometimes back to back. The black out normally happens during the commercial and happens randomly.

It is making watching many channels very difficult.
Being stuck at home with nothing to do now....want to watch tv.
I havnt tried recording a program on the affected channels yet though.
It's more than just specific channels. I also get an error where I'll be watching and then it pops up saying it's not available in my area. I click back and play again and now it's fine. 
Edit; now I went to commercial and it went black and the AppleTV app said connection lost. Now when I go back in is says tuner not available? That's odd.... It's TVE!
yea. i have gotten failed to tune or something error a few times now when i try to tune to a tve channel, like Comedy Central and Discovery....i then laod some other channel up for a sec, then go back to the channel that would not load and it works....until a comerical come on.
The errors in the DVR logs when this occurs with 403 and 404 errors being returned when trying to download segments points to a problem with the networks' servers, not Channels. A 403 Forbidden error would indicate a problem with authentication, while a 404 Not found implies that there's a mismatch on their server trying to serve you a segment.
Because this seems to happen mostly during commercial boundaries, it appears to me that the network has some hiccups with inserting/redirecting the stream to the commercials. While it's frustrating, it is most likely a problem with the stream coming from the networks' servers, and not really something that is within Channels' control.
Hanst been an issue before for months of use.
and like i said, Channels can do better to do a work around of sorts, like to auto retry the connection when that error happens. user should not need to close out of the app and restart it. they coudl even put up a status message, "stream lost, retrying, try 1 try 2"...
Nobody likes commercials, but closing out of the channel and waiting, then guessing at when the show comes back on, is no way to "skip" the comercials...lolz.
Watching the same stream direct from the source site, like Discovery, has no issues.
Edit: it is also making any recordings "Interrupted". but that seems to auto recover and contiue recording the show.
I'm also see this same issue on multiple channels. It's starting to make these channels unwatchable. Are the devs looking at this error?

All of my TVE recordings also show interrupted. Most of them recover and finish recording, but at least two them them stopped recording at 6 or 10 minutes.
@racameron - I think you are correct. I installed the Fox mobile app on my iPad and during live tv the stream dies on a commercial break. The behavior is different as I can lick on "live" and the stream will start again (even streaming the commercial). With channels, I have to wait until the show starts again to get the stream going.
Ok so if this were true, If I log into the stream with my PC and not experience the same issue then what?
If you hit your rewind or left button at least once, the issue should stop. I get this on Fox News all the time when they goto break. Hitting the back button resolves the issue for me.
Not possible on CC or Discovery. The app just freezes, the seek bar comes up and there is a black screen and no buffer to seek. The server reports that is closed it connection.
I tried both channels on my Apple TV and Fire TV and the rewind is functional. What client you are using
Try letting it play for 20 seconds and then hit the back button so you have a 10 second buffer. Seems to be helping me so far.

no. i mean when there is abuffer to RW into, and often there is not as it seems to be cleared out when the stream closes, i can RW back but soon as i try to FF to present, it lock s up and u cant do anything more. same when if u pause it for 15 min, and try to seek past the commericals....u cant recover from it.
No what I'm saying is when you watch, you start it and then back up 30 seconds then leave it there.
