Stream Links Question

Complete newbie question here. I am ordering a Synology NAS and my entire reason for purchasing Channels DVR is to watch content from my cable channels outside of the country. I know I am good on that front.

But I keep reading about "streams" which "launch" an app such as netflix - which I assume happens on the local device such as Fire stick or whatever. So is there any advantage to that other than being able to launch everything from the Channels DVR UI? Because if I launch an app from out of the country I still won't be able to access it due to restrictions, right?

Many people use a VPN that fakes there location to watch video streams. That's questionable on the legal side and up to you if you want to try that.
