Stutter after 10 seconds playing DVR recordings

4 year channels DVR user

my DVR runs on a Qnap Intel based NAS. The server had a an update in November

since that update, playback stutters after about 10-20 seconds of starting.

Only happens once then playback is smooth.

Anyone else experiencing this?. Any suggestions on a fix?

I haven't had any problems with my QNAP. But the performance depends on so many variables ... What's the model number of your QNAP? Are you using hardware and software transcoding? Is the program from TVE or HDHomeRun? Are you watching it in real time? What's your client? Etc ...

TS451,. Intel j1800 quad core. Hardware transcoding enabled

use hdhomerun

happens mostly when catching a recording in process

again, channel has work flawlessly until the the DVR App was updated in november,

How much ram? I think the 451+ only comes with 2GB unless you've upgraded. Have you looked at the NAS CPU and ram usage while it's recording and playing back? You might try backing off the number of thread counts in the DVR commercial detection settings ... go to 1 to see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions from all,

My NAS has 8 GB ( upgraded the ram)

I also only had 1 thread for commercial skipping enabled

will do the unthinkable and try turning on and off the NAS and see if will clean up some cruft and fix it

If you play the recording again does it always stutter in the same place?

Generally this would indicate that the network speed between the client (what client device?) and your DVR QNAP is not good.

no, the stutter seems to happen on the 1st playback

Both the client (Nvidia shield) and the Qnap are on the same wired gig network

I have restarted the NAS and will see if that helps

next step would be to disable commercial detection to see if that impacts

In Channels app on your SHIELD click Settings > Support > Test Speed to DVR and post the results

FIXED (or so it seems)

To close out this issue

I disabled commercial detection , then restarted the NAS

After reboot, the stuttering issue I was encountering was gone - after a day, I re enabled the commercial detection feature and the problem was still gone

I dont know if rebooting the NAS or disabling commercial detection was the fix, but both are easy enough to do. Maybe a combination of the two
