Stuttering, etc. with new HDHomeRun 4K tuner on

I have 3 HDHR (2 Extends and 1 Quatro 4K). I have 2 channels that are having problems when I set the 4K tuner as the first priority tuner. One channel (the CBS affiliate I get a blue/green screen with choppy audio). The other channel (the ABC affiliate) I get video but choppy audio. I am able to display the "stats" for the ABC affiliate, it shows the video codec as HEVC, under dropped frames it lists 0 for tuner, but 286 for output. Audio is AC-4. What information do I need to provide the channels team to help determine what the possible issues might be? (NOTE: when I adjust the tuner priority back to the Extends on top, there are no issues with any channels).

Thank you

ATSC 3.0 (4k) channels are not reliable at the moment. Video and audio issues are known. In my market, the ATSC 3.0 channels are being taken off line and on line while they work out the bugs. After being off line for 5 days, they started to reappear yesterday -- with a few new issues.

If you're not on the HDHR Forum for ATSC 3.0, you will want to head that way to keep up with your market. It's a hot mess right now.

My 4k tuner is the last priority on my setup so I don't encounter these issues while ATSC 3.0 is in early beta.

I do monitor that forum, and the reason I bring it up to the Channels folks is the 3.0 channels appear to function OK with the SD HDHomeRun app (which from what I understand will auto-select the 4K tuner if there is a 3.0 channel available). But are unusable in Channels, so I am really offering data to the Channels team on what they would need/like to improve. I do set the 4K tuner to last priority as well.

The SD app does not select the 3.0 channel if you have more than one HDHR. It selects the HDHR with the lowest device ID (AKA the oldest), so in your case it's tuning 1.0 channels. If the 4K was the only device on your network, it would select the 3.0 channel.

Got it. Here's a link to help you send actionable information to the Channels team:

I sent some examples a week or so ago, but the stations didn't take down the ATSC 3.0 stations for days because there were no issues on their end. I don't want to run the Channels Devs in circles chasing issues they can never resolve.

With my Channels setup today, CBS plays perfectly. NBC is still not back on line, ABC has video and audio issues, Fox has no video only audio, CW pauses and skips audio and video. Yesterday, all of the stations had issues.

Send the Devs some samples so they can look, but I'm not optimistic they can fix all that is wrong. Once ATSC 3.0 is stable, they'll have a good starting point to address any Channels DVR issues.

It's easy to confirm whether you're watching 3.0 or 1.0 through the HDHR app. Just check your tuner status while watching something. I personally haven't found any 3.0 channels to work well on any software including the HDHR app on my LG CX TV. The audio and video work okay, but the motion is not smooth when compared against mpeg2. I don't know if this is an issue with the broadcast or the playback, so for now I'm just leaving my 4K tuner disconnected while all the issues are sorted out.
