Just paid for the app using my Homerun HD Extend on AppleTV 4K (A1842) and the Channels App is completely useless. Instant stuttering. Totally unwatchable. Same results using Linear or Blend. Doesn’t matter which channel I select. Running tvOS 11.1 (15J582). WiFi to the ATV with full signal strength (Running Ubiquiti wireless gear at the house). Plex plays all channels just fine. This is an OTA antenna feeding into my Homerun HD.
Suggestions?
Plex transcodes for playback, so it uses much lesser bandwidth. The channels app streams raw mpeg2 and requires a low latency high throughput link.
It sounds like your Wi-Fi coverage at the ATV isn’t good. Can you try plugging it in to compare? Also try the free app InstaTV to compare.
Thanks for the response. WiFi is fine at TV. InstaTV plays all the channels just fine. No stuttering at all. My Speedtest App with my iPhone 7 is 70 down and 20 up right next to ATV. I often get faster speeds than that as I’ve got 200 down.
So InstaTV on the same ATV4K works?
What transcoding mode do you have set on the Settings tab of the app under your hdhomerun? Does heavy or mobile make any difference?
Another thing to compare… while streaming to either InstaTV or Channels, visit the tuner status page on the hdhomerun and look at the signal strength and streaming rate.
